Happy Friday!
Yesterday, Disney+ made us all giddy by announcing lots of future additions to its popular Star Wars and Marvel franchises. The streaming service which launched in October 2019 is now streaming to a massive audience of 86.8 million subscribers globally. There's still a long way to go to catch up with its competitor Netflix, which has almost 200 million subscribers, but it's an impressive user growth that has surpassed market expectations nonetheless.
Also this week Complex Networks is the latest company to use virtual worlds to bring its in-person shopping event online. We went along to ComplexLand for a visit - and although we weren't able to get food delivered to Ireland from the festival food trucks onsite, we had a great time looking around!
Our Top Pick is the latest blog post from Connie Chan, a general partner at VC firm Andreessen Horowitz who walks us through her take on a video-first future, as it relates to education, skills sharing, and of course, shopping!
Until next week!
Gucci perfume opens Snapchat portal to virtual 'garden of dreams'
And finally...
Gucci Beauty is using virtual reality to promote its Bloom Profumo di Fiori fragrance on Snapchat.
Using the portal lens, users can step into a virtual garden of dreams and search for five fragrances. The AR experience provides a creative and fun way for Gucci Beauty to direct customers to their website. It's a pity we can't smell the AR fragrances, but we're looking forward to the day when technology makes this possible!
