Happy Friday, and Seasons Greetings!
What a year 2020 has been for the world of video streaming, OTT and interactive video experiences!
Tis the season to be shopping, and this year saw a continued rise in the use of shoppable video by direct to consumer brands across the globe looking to convert browsers into customers.
This week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they have joined the Spotify family. The exclusive multi-year deal will see them produce and host a series of podcasts that uplift and entertain audiences, kicking off with a holiday special featuring inspirational stories from 2020.
Our Top Pick this week is a long read from The Hollywood Reporter about the seismic impact on Hollywood of WarnerMediaβs recent decision to stream movies on its HBO Max OTT app at the same time as they are released in cinemas. Itβs hard to understate how profound a change in direction this is for a movie making titan and, succeed or fail, its effects will be felt across every corner of the industry for years, even decades, to come.
Team Rerun is taking a little break for the holidays, and we'll be back to report on the future of video in 2021. But before we go, we wish you a very happy holiday season from all at Axonista HQ.
Thank you for reading Rerun in 2020, and here's to a happy, healthy 2021! π
WATCH: German Christmas ad leaves viewers sobbing
And finally...
Our favorite Christmas ad this year is from German pharmacy, Doc Morris.
The Christmas advert tells the story of an elderly man's bond with his granddaughter and it is sure to bring you to tears (of joy!).
It's a great example of the power of video storytelling, no words needed.
