Happy Friday!
Lots of interesting things this week to report.
Firstly, Comscore released its 2020 State of OTT Report. Some findings are somewhat obvious, such as cord-cutting is continuing to rise, and OTT saw a huge increase in viewing during the pandemic. But perhaps most notably, 'The use of pure-play virtual MVPDs to view OTT content has seen a 70 percent year-over-year growth ' - that's a huge vote of confidence in services like Pluto and Sling, as a way for viewers to consume content.
In other news, Amazon is looking to add live content, like sports, news and music to its Prime Service, perhaps in a bid to differentiate from Netflix which has stayed away from this type of content so far.
Our Top Pick is Twitch, which is bringing its gaming origins to scripted and unscripted original shows on the platform. According to Cyrus Ghahremani, head of content development at Twitch, 'It’s a little bit like a show you can play.”
We look forward to seeing how this develops.
Until next week!
