Happy Friday!
This week, some excellent news for the cinema industry as Disney announced the rest of its 2021 films will debut in cinemas before being made available on Disney+. The musical Encanto will debut in cinemas on Nov 24th for 30 days before coming to Disney+ on Dec 24th, while other movies will have a minimum of a 45-day cinema release window.
Speaking of excellent news, it's great to see Ikea experiment with live streaming for its 24-hour festival which took place yesterday. We hope to see Ikea continue to do this with more integration of e-commerce into the video!
In not such great news, NAB Show has canceled its 2021 trade show in Las Vegas due to safety concerns from Covid-19. We are keeping our fingers crossed for other events planned, and look forward to catching up with our US industry friends soon.
Our Top Pick this week is the launch of the JD.com interactive mall! Opening in China, the 42,000 square meter mall will have VR equipment, an intelligent robot, a virtual livestream room, and more to provide consumers with an immersive shopping experience.
Until next week!
Meet the avatars of Alter Ego, Fox's new singing competition
And finally...
Fox is launching a new singing avatar competition that allows singers to perform as their own digital creations.
Alter Ego allows singers to perform as the cool avatar they create! The avatar will perform on stage and follow the singer's backstage motions, movements, and voice. Even if the performer gets emotional, the avatar will cry with them! We think it'll be interesting to see how this changes the face of reality competitions and how using technology can provide inclusivity for those with extraordinary talents but who are too shy to get on stage.
