Happy Friday!
The battle between Spotify and Apple rages on 🍿
This week Spotify announced an impressive new podcast monetisation program for creators. The new subscription program will incur no creator fees for the first two years. From 2023, this will increase to a 5% cut of subscription revenue.
This fee is more attractive than Apple's offering, which charges 30% of podcast subscription revenue in the first year, then drops to 15% from year 2. It will also charge creators $20 annually to use its tools.
Your move, Apple!
Speaking of battles, Roku is ready to take on YouTube TV, and today, has taken the action of removing the app from its platform in protest against what it sees as anti-competitive practices, including manipulation of search results, and usage of customer data.
The whole industry is paying close attention to this one.
Until next week!
Netflix’s new ‘Play Something’ shuffle feature is here to solve your movie night indecision
And finally...
Netflix's new feature Play Something will automatically suggest new shows and movies based on users existing profiles and viewing history.
The feature will appear underneath the user's profile when they log in, the left-side navigation bar, and the tenth row of Netflix’s homepage.
It'll be interesting to see how many people will stick with the first decision.
