Happy Friday!!
Our Top Pick this week is the future of CBS all Access, one of the first competitors to Netflix's dominance. CBS All Access deserves respect for surviving 6 years. But it goes without saying it did not set the streaming world on fire like the release of Disney+.
This could change, as CBS has a second chance at a first impression. CBS had a considerable back catalogue of content before its merger with Viacom. Now, it has brands like BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Pictures under its banner. This could make a big splash, and get the kind of attention and momentum that Disney+ has received.
This week also saw Quibi’s app launch (pre-order only). YouTube TV welcomed HBO & Cinemax to its offering, and Amazon Prime outpaced Netflix growth in the UK. Could we see Netflix finally explore live sports content to make up lost ground?
Have a great weekend and see you all next week!
The drunken HQ Trivia finale before it shut down was insane
The ground-breaking HQ Trivia app is sadly no more, after investors pulled the plug. In one last hurrah HQ Trivia hosted its final quiz.
During the stream, the two hosts Matt Richards and Anna Roisman have a disastrous, hilarious and beautiful last 40 mins. It's two friends and colleagues that lost their jobs, and a real, genuine slice of life, given freely and captured for posterity. A fitting end for the app that took the world by storm only a few years ago.
So we say goodbye and farewell HQ Trivia!
