HQ Trivia was a blockbuster hit — but internal turmoil and a shrinking audience have pushed its company to the brink
HQ, the game that was welcomed into millions of homes across the world, appears to be in a tricky situation with no extra lives, and time running down on the clock.
Reports are suggesting that the HQ app is at times lucky to be in the top 500 most-downloaded free iPhone games. On the flip side the game still gathers audiences of over 800,000 players on Sunday evenings. The average game lasts only 15 minutes, but it is disrupting traditional prime time TV viewing.
The internal situation in HQ appears to be the big issue. With growing pains, a dramatic change of their CEO, and their eagerly awaited second app, a “Wheel of Fortune”-style game for smartphones called “Words,” this new game needs to be a hit.
Is HQ capable of creating another hit show? Or was this a one-hit wonder?
