Happy Friday, and a Happy New Year!
Roku has started 2021 from a great position. The streaming platform announced it surpassed 50 million monthly users at the end of 2020. We are excited to see what else Roku has planned this year, as it is currently said to be in talks to buy Quibi’s content.
This week saw the launch of the first streaming platform of 2021. Discovery+ launched in the US on 4th January. It's available as both an ad-supported service at $4.99 per month, and ad-free at $6.99 per month, which positions it at a lower price-point than other major streaming services in the US market.
We are excited to see what 2021 has in store for the streaming market, OTT, and shoppable video, and we look forward to sharing that with you! Our big prediction for this year, is that live-streamed video commerce or Shoppertainment is set to be one of retail's biggest trends, as brands continue to seek new ways of engaging with consumers.
Wishing you an excellent 2021!
Fortnite developer Epic Games just bought a North Carolina mall for its new headquarters
And finally...
Fortnite developer Epic Games has bought a North Carolina mall for its new headquarters. By 2024, the huge shopping mall will be transformed into a recreational and office space.
This is an imaginative repurposing of retail space, and certainly a fitting location for a company that produces games set in virtual worlds. We're looking forward to seeing how they decorate the place!
