Netflix to deliver movies to the PC
Sometimes you have to look back to see how far you have come. Ten years ago the New York Times published an article about Netflix's venture into the world of video streaming.
In retrospect, the article is a ringing endorsement for the value of creativity, innovation, and bravery within every business.
The long-awaited Gary Oldman-narrated David Bowie AR app is finally out
In honour of the 72nd anniversary of David Bowie’s birth, Sony Music Entertainment Japan and Planeta have released the AR app DAVID BOWIE IS. The AR app is inspired by the blockbuster British museum exhibition of the same name.
ReRun spent a very pleasant few hours playing with the app.
The app brings you through Bowie's career, with Gary Oldman's narration acting as the spine of the story. Where the app shines is in how the highlights of Bowie's career are presented. As you enter a new section, artefacts from each era spread themselves across your space. At your leisure you can explore and learn about them. The music of Bowie is woven throughout. Interactive elements like a stack of records on a table, or a music video on a old TV provide a soundtrack to your investigations.
DAVID BOWIE IS may have been inspired by a museum exhibition but it made us feel more like Indiana Jones. Exploring and interacting with our own personal collection of Bowie treasures.
Kudos to Planeta and Sony Music Entertainment Japan for thinking about AR as a tool to enhance storytelling, and not just a spectacle in and of itself.
