Losing track of time? Let David Lynch help

As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on and self-isolation remains the safest thing to do, the days have begun to blur together. (As asked by my colleague Emily VanDerWerff at Vox, “What day is it?”) Luckily, director David Lynch is here to help.

In 2008, Lynch used to do “weather reports” on his website, and has now resumed doing them — from the same room, no less — for 2020. Since May 11, the filmmaker has been uploading a daily video in which he states what day is it, and what the weather forecast is. Though the forecast is, unfortunately, only for the Los Angeles area, Lynch’s soothing way of stating the date (month, day, year, and day of the week) is still tremendously useful.

Most of the videos have a blue hue, and feature various objects on the desk in front of Lynch, ranging from a drill to a steaming cup of coffee. The result is, fittingly, a little Twin Peaks-esque, as Lynch also comments on what he can see from his window (“One or two little clouds floating by,” “Some early morning fog clearing to blue skies, golden sunshine”).

If keeping track of the days is proving to be a problem, keep Lynch’s YouTube channel open in a tab, and he’ll remind you every day.
