Atari’s long-awaited Atari VCS finally has a preorder date of May 30th, nearly a year after it was initially teased at E3 in 2017, as reported by Engadget.

The Atari VCS, which uses a design aesthetic inspired by the Atari 2600 Video Computer System, will be offered two different ways: a “time-limited” Collector’s Edition with a wood-front finish, and a black Onyx edition. Atari’s announcement also says that “other packages will include the Classic Joystick and Modern Controller,” hinting that all accessories will have to be purchased separately.

This new console might look retro, but there’s a lot of modern-day additions. Atari has partnered with AMD for the custom processor which runs Linux, making it capable of playing both classic Atari games and midtier PC titles. The platform will support 4K resolution as well as HDR and 60 fps content. It also offers built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, USB 3, and expandable storage options.

Additionally, the Atari VCS will come with the Atari Vault, a collection of more than 100 classic games including Asteroids, Centipede, Breakout, and Gravitar. The company also says users will have access to an array of “media and streaming content options” as well as a full range of modern gaming options, but there’s no further information yet on what that exactly means.

The presale of Atari VCS is exclusive to Indiegogo, where you can sign up to access the launch day deal. As always, be mindful of crowdfunding campaigns. Atari isn’t saying how much the console will go for, but last year the company said that it would likely cost between $250 and $300.
